About the Department

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the founding and well-established departments at SRMIST, Kattankulathur established in the year 1985. The department offers two undergraduate programs namely Civil Engineering and Civil Engineering with Computer Applications as well as five postgraduate programs in Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering Management, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Remote Sensing and GIS. B.Tech. Civil Engineering program at Kattankulathur Campus is accredited by Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET (www.abet.org) and National Board of Accreditation (NBA). M. Tech Structural Engineering program at Kattankulathur Campus is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Currently, the department supports more than a hundred research scholars pursuing research in areas such as modern construction materials, structural systems, soil-structure interactions, construction engineering and management, environmental studies, watershed and wetland management, transportation engineering, remote sensing and GIS applications. The department takes pride in its distinguished, seasoned, and committed teaching faculty, excelling in both teaching and research. They actively contribute to academic and research advancement by publishing research articles, providing top-notch technical advisory support through various R&D projects and consultancy services to a wide array of organizations, as well as publishing patents, books, and consistently presenting papers in international and national conferences. With twelve basic and advanced laboratories catering to academic and research needs, ten signed MoUs, Eighty Four patents Published, Thirty Eight granted, Fifteen completed/ongoing externally funded projects, and five current (international/national) student chapters, the department has established a strong foundation. Besides, the department possesses excellent infrastructure facilities that meet international standards, enabling us to produce high- calibre civil engineers.
