About the Department

The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1995 as a part of SRM Engineering College. Initially, it offered a B.Tech. Chemical Engineering program. Later on, from the academic year 2002 – 2003, it began offering an M.Tech. Chemical Engineering program. The department started functioning under SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University) from the academic year 2003 – 2004. The doctoral (PhD) program in Chemical Engineering was introduced in the year 2004. The department is equipped with highly qualified faculty members who hold a PhD degree from reputed institutes such as IIT, IISc, BARC, and foreign universities. Faculty members have extensive experience in renowned academic institutes and industries and maintain close interactions with institutes like IIT Madras, NIOT Chennai, NIT Trichy, IGCAR Kalpakkam, and several private industries. Our department has a two-pronged approach to research. Firstly, we concentrate on research initiatives that have a positive impact on society. Secondly, we work with industrial partners to solve their problems and develop useful products. Students have graduated and gone on to pursue higher studies in some of the most prestigious institutes in the world, such as MIT, NUS, and the University of Texas. The students who joined the department have access to various job opportunities in a range of industries such as refineries, fertilizer, pharmaceuticals, energy, and IT-enabled sectors. The department regularly updates its curriculum to keep up with advancements in multiple disciplines such as process automation and immersive technologies. This ensures that students are equipped with the latest software tools and sophisticated instrumentation, integrating core chemical engineering concepts. As a result, they are well-prepared for the highly promising career prospects in this field.
