About the Department

The Department of Biotechnology incepted in 2003 comprises qualified and competent faculty, both full-time and visiting, with national and international experience in diverse fields of biosciences and bioengineering. The B.Tech., and M.Tech., programmes have been accredited by the NBA for a period of six years (2021–2027) and three years (2025–2028) respectively. Due to persistent improvement, the department could maintain the UG and PG student enrolment above 95%.

Semester Abroad Programme (SAP) offers students the opportunity to spend one semester abroad at prestigious universities (Harvard Medical School, USA, Lehigh University, USA, Uppsala University, Sweden, and Tzu-Chi University, Taiwan) around the globe, where they will learn to do advanced research. So far, >100 students have benefited from SAP. Research is the major thrust of our department, with diversified domains such as Medical Biotechnology, Marine and Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering.

The department has been supported by DST-FIST and DBT, Government of India for research and skill development in advanced life science technologies. Furthermore, various funding agencies such as ICMR, ANRF, DST, DBT, MNRE, AICTE, International agencies such as EBP Inc., Japan, University of Switzerland, Unique Therapeutics Global, Czech Republic and few industries have financially supported our faculty members through sponsored projects with a total outlay of Rs. 741.61 Lakhs in last 3 years. There are 11 government funded research laboratories, 3 industry sponsored research facilities, and 8 academic labs with sophisticated infrastructure facilities.
